Fridge On Wheels

I moved to United States in September 2001. I lived here for 9 years. Occasionally I go back to my country to visit family and friends. On one of the visits I was offered a business idea from my brother in law. We were supposed to import luxury SUV from America to Republic of Georgia. Moreover, I accepted this opportunity to invest money and start business. After shipping two containers with three SUV in each, this business appeared to be quite profitable. It was my third shipment when I saw this beautiful Mercedes ML320 for a very good price. In a day or two I delivered that car to the shipping company for immediate shipment. In about one month after shipping it I received a phone call from my brother in law, who asked me, why I send him a fridge. It was quite surprising for me to hear a complain about this beautiful car.

However, I started to understand that Georgians associate white cars with a fridge. It does not matter if it’s the best car in the world, it cannot be white. Two cars were sold immediately but white one was becoming a nightmare. Not a sigle buyer will look at it. It took us about three to four month to sell that white Mercedes with about 35% off from initial price.

Therefore, never again I looked for the white car to send it to Republic of Georgia. For quite some time it was a nightmare for me to look at the white car. However, I have learned my lesson for believing that I knew my own culture. As of now I don’t do this business anymore and I do like white cars.
